  • Are your candles vegan and cruelty free?
Yes they are! I use a plant-based wax (rapeseed-coconut blend) and the scents I use are vegan too! I also make sure to check for a 'cruelty free' label when I buy my materials. Sustainability and animal rights are important to me, so only vegan products at Lua!
  • What wax do you use to make the candles?
I use a 100% plant-based rapeseed wax for all candles. Using a sustainable, natural and non-toxic wax is very important for me and one of the key factors of my business!
  • Why is your plant-based wax better than paraffin?
Most candles in stores are made with paraffin. It is not commonly known, but paraffin is a toxic material, to you and to the environment. Paraffin is a petroleum waste product which releases toxic chemicals when burned, that's not healthy for you ofcourse. Paraffin is often transported by boat, when these boats are cleaned the toxic materials end up in the ocean and harm sealife too. All Lua candles are made with a plant-based rapeseed wax. It is manufactured in Europe, which makes it even more sustainable than soy wax which is often produced in the United States.
  • What do you use to scent your candles?
At this moment I'm using both synthetic perfumes. I'm looking to make a switch to essential oils in the future, but that's not very easy and needs a lot of testing. So this is a future plan :)
  • Is your packaging sustainable?
Yes it is! I ban plastic from my packaging by packing everything in paper. I also use biodegradable squishies to keep your goods safe during the trip. They will dissolve when you put them in water! I also encourage you to re-use the packaging as much as possible :)
  • Is it safe to use crystals in candles?
Crystals are tough, they can easily handle the heat without getting damaged. The crystals also do no harm to the candle, all good!
  • Is the decoration on your candles safe?
The rose petals and herbs are covered in wax, so they normally do not burn. However, it is important to never leave a candle alone. Also always keep your candles away from children and pets. I also made a few candles with lots of pretty flowers on top, those I do not recommand burning. It is clearly noted at the product which ones are only for decoration.
  • Are your candles handmade?
Yes, all candles are handmade by me. It's a one woman-business! This means that every candle is unique and made with lots of love and patience.

  • How do I get the crystals out of the candle?
It is best to take the crystals out shortly after you have blown out your candle, never take them out while your candle is burning!! You can use metal tweezers or a fork to take the crystals out of the wax. But be careful the wax might be still hot. The crystals can easily be cleaned in hot water, the wax will just rinse off. Dry them and enjoy your new gem! Note: You can leave the tumbled crystals in the candle as long as you wish, but I do advice to take geodes and clusters out when the top layer is melting. They might be hard to clean when totally covered in wax.

  • Do you have any tips to get the best out of my candle?
Yes! Tip1: Candles have a memory. Let the wax melt until the meltpool reaches the edges of your candle with the first burn, this will prevent tunneling and make your candle last longer. Tip 2: Cut the wick before every burn (to about 0,5 cm) for a cleaner burn. Tip 3: Do not let your candles burn longer than 4 hours at a time. Be safe!! Never leave a candle unattended and always keep it away from children and pets.
